Housing
Along with city centres, housing-type terrains are the main source of the "housing" commodity. There are four main kinds of housing:
- Cottages are small and produce food. They must be built on fertile terrain, but you can build farmland over them afterwards. They can be very useful in the early game, especially for grassland cities.
- Wooden housing has a much higher capacity than cottages, and it can be built anywhere on land. Unlike brick or stone housing, it's fairly cheap to build, making it another staple of the early game.
- Brick housing has a higher capacity than wooden housing, but it is more expensive to build. It also requires a higher culture.
- Stone housing has the highest capacity and it is the hardest to build. It also has the lowest maintenance cost. The high culture requirements limits its usefulness in small cities.
